Take your newly acquired skills in Contemporary Kiln Formed Glass to the next level in this dynamic 2-day Intermediate Workshop.

This exciting suite of Intermediate level courses will equip students with the next level of glass kiln forming skills, whilst fostering each individual’s artistic direction in glass

Students will be encouraged to draw on their own creative ideas and interests whilst also learning 3-4 new intermediate level kiln forming techniques, to further build their skill level

This workshop is suitable for students who have already completed our one-day beginner workshop or have had prior experience with kiln formed studio glass

Core Techniques covered include:

• Block fusing and arching

• Texturing and organic mould making

• Pate-de-Verre technique

•  Sandblasting and use of Sandblasting resists

· Working with high-fire glass enamels, and metallic paints

• Introduction to basic ‘cold working’ processes 

• Circle cutting and cutting of large sheets

• Kiln Firing Schedules

• Mould preparation

• Health and safety

If you would like to strengthen your own unique artistic style in glass whilst learning a range of new techniques then this is the course for you!

Materials provided:

• 1/3 large sheet of clear Tekta glass and all smaller pieces of coloured glass

• All tools (glass cutters, pliers, rulers etc)

• All moulds 

• All safety equipment (safety glasses, masks etc)

• Artistic materials (enamel, some frits, glass glue etc)

Please note: Larger pieces of coloured Bullseye and extra clear Tekta glass are available for purchase.

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of this suite of courses, each student will have the skills to:

• Create a layered block of glass (up to 10 sheets thick)

• Create textured patterns in their glass platters and objects

• Create objects using the Pate-de-Verre technique

• Linish their glass work and operate the sandblaster

• Integrate high-fire enamels

• Cut circles and larger sheets of glass with confidence

• Operate a kiln and program firing schedules

• Implement appropriate health and safety procedures

· It is recommended that students complete 3-4 of these two-day Intermediate courses, if they wish to gain a good understanding of all the techniques mentioned above
