Take your newly acquired skills in Contemporary Kiln Formed Glass to the next level in this exciting two-day Intermediate Kiln-Casting Workshop

Designed to be taken after our Beginner Workshop, this new Intermediate-level course will equip students with a new range of kiln-casting skills to broaden their repertoire of warm glass techniques, whilst fostering each individual’s artistic direction in glass.

Students will be encouraged to draw on their own creative ideas, interests, and fused glass techniques already under their belt to dive into a sculptural casting project.

During this two-day course, students will sculpt 3 forms from terracotta clay, and learn how to translate them into cast glass creations. Day one will focus on sculpting, mould preparation, and calculating glass quantities for casting, while day two will involve divesting the castings from their moulds post-firing, and learning how to clean and coldwork the finished artwork.

Core Techniques Covered Include:

• Clay sculpting

• Introduction to plaster-silica mould making and preparation

• Introduction to basic ‘cold working’ processes

• Kiln Firing Schedules

• Health and safety

If you would like to strengthen your own unique artistic style in glass whilst learning a range of new techniques then this is the course for you!
